The examination is held once a year and is held for posts like Central Excise/ Income Tax Inspector, Sub Inspector in CBI, Compiler in RGI, Enforcement Officer, Section Officer Account, Statistical Investigators and Sub Inspector in CPO, ITBP, CISF, CRPF, SSB and BSF.
What is CGL Combined Graduate Level Exam?
The SSC CGL exam patter for 2013 has been revised by the commission to ensure that the bonafide candidates get qualified. The exam date has also been revised by the SSC and candidates should follow the schedule of the exam. The exam pattern has also been changed so candidates should have a look at the new pattern. The exam comes in different tiers and candidates should follow them.

CGL – Combined Graduate Level Eligibility
- The minimum qualification for the Combined Graduate Level exam is gradation from a recognized university.
- The age limit is 18 to 27 years for 2013 exam
- Age limit for the post of Assistant/Sub Inspector in CBI is 20 to 27 years.
- Age relaxation is provided for the reserved candidates or as per government rules.
There is some difference in age limit in some posts offered by the SSC. Candidates have to note the age for that particular post.
How to Apply for CGL – Combined Graduate Level Exam
The candidates can apply through online and offline mode of application. They also have to register their names with the SSC so that they get the admit card or hall ticket to appear for the exam. Candidates are requested to fill the form with correct information regarding eth posts and the states. Once the form is filled and submitted, candidate cannot change it.
Candidates will receive roll numbers at least two weeks before the exam. The admission certificates will have exam time table and venue of the exam. If the candidate does not receive the admission certificate, he/she must contact the concerned office of SSC.
CGL – Combined Graduate Level Exam Application Fees
Candidates have to pay fees to get registered in the SSC. The application form will be accepted by the SSC upon paying the sum of Rs. 100/-. However, the fee is only for the general category. Women, and the reserved category and other category as per government rules will not have to pay registration fees. The registration of filing of payment details in required along with photograph and scanned signature. Candidates who wish to pay online can pay through SBI net Banking or cash through SBI bank challan. Candidates can pay the amount in SBI branch in any part of the country.
CGL – Combined Graduate Level Exam Pattern
The exam pattern comprises of three phases namely Tier I, which is a written exam, Tier II main written exam and Tier III personal interview. The exam pattern is common for all posts. The exam is of objective nature and has multiple choice questions. Negative markings of 0.25 are applied for every wrong answer. Test or skill test is also conducted wherever applicable.
CGL – Combined Graduate Level Syllabus
The topics that are covered in the Tier I exam are General intelligence, reasoning of 50 marks, General awareness of 50 marks, Quantitative aptitude of 50 marks, English comprehension 50 marks. The duration of the tier I exam is 2 hours.
In the tier II exam the topics are Quantitative abilities of 200 marks, English language and comprehension of 200 marks. The duration is of 2 ours and 40 minutes. Statistics if applicable is of 200marks.
Interview carries 100 marks
Candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks in the exam will be eligible for Skill test. Successful candidates will be called for personal interview.
